DENPASAR, BALIPOST.com – Ngurah Rai International Airport will be re-dedicated as a Sri Chinmoy Peace Airport at a special event on 8 February 2023, from 11.00 to noon. The event, a collaboration between Angkasa Pura 1 and the Sri Chinmoy International Peace-Blossoms, is taking place in the gardens outside the international arrivals area at the airport.

Beside this special event, since 2001 there has been a monument dedicating the airport to peace in Sri Chinmoy’s name. The purpose of the Peace-Blossoms programme is to inspire passers-by that we are all members of one world family, and that world peace starts inside the heart of each person.

According to the release received by Balipost.com, spiritual leader Sri Chinmoy (1931-2007) dedicated his life to fostering the growth of peace inside the hearts of people from all nationalities and faiths. More than 1,100 landmarks have been dedicated to the cause of world peace as part of the Sri Chinmoy Peace-Blossoms family.

They include 152 nations, many natural wonders such as Niagara and Victoria Falls, Mount Everest and the summit of Mount Fuji, and man-made structures such as India’s Taj Mahal and Australia’s Sydney Opera House.

The event will also feature a peace invocation with the torch carried by the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run in more than 160 countries around the world. The General Manager of Ngurah Rai International Airport,  Handy Heryudhitiawan, will receive the Torch-Bearer Award from the Peace Run in recognition of his dedicated service.

The Torch-Bearer Award has been offered to remarkable people around the world who have inspired their communities, cities and nations, including Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Olympic athlete Carl Lewis, and Herman van Rompuy, President of the European Council.

A children’s choir from the SMPK 2 Harapan School will perform “A New World of Peace,” a song by Sri Chinmoy, in English, Bahasa Indonesia and Bahasa Bali, as well as the national anthem and other songs. A group of over 170 people from the Sri Chinmoy Centres International is visiting Bali from around the world through 9 February to exchange spiritual and cultural experiences. (kmb/balipost)
